Mr. Olito

Working with Seniors - A little help goes a long way

When Patricia first met our client Mr. Olito back in 2016, he was a widower in his late-80s with no other family. He indicated that he was interested in selling his custom built 4 bedroom bungalow on 50 acres, to move into something smaller with less maintenance with a focus on retirement communities or homes.

Usually, it takes seniors some time to mentally and physically part with their home. Whether they just moved there in the last few years or they built the home with their own two hands, independence is something that nobody wants to lose. The idea will come to them, whether it's a family member who initiates it, or something unfortunate happens that makes them realize that they should no longer be living alone. From there, it can take months or years for the idea of moving to become a reality. Understandability, in our clients case it was no different.

Over the last 6 years, they had countless lunch meetings to discuss his future plans and where he wants to be. Patricia was helpful and patient to show our client multiple properties, in hopes to find him something that he was comfortable leaving his home for. It wasn't until this past year, in 2021, Mr. Olito now being in his early 90s, that he decided it was time to move to a place where he could have daily care.

We got to work to help our client find a retirement community that fit his needs for location and financial budget. We arranged tours, meetings and helped our client set up a 'trial stay’ to make sure he was making the right choice.

After his trial stay at the retirement community, Mr. Olito moved in and never looked back. From there our team quickly got to work to help declutter his property to help show the home in the best light and to ensure he received the most money for his home. We spent about 6 days and did multiple runs to the donation bin and the dump before listing the home.

This home is now occupied by a young family of 4 to enjoy the space how Mr. Olito had intended when he built the home, being filled with love, laughter and people making memories.

Mr. Olito is happier than ever in his new home where he still has his independence but can be looked after by professionals for his needs.

It was a longer journey than most of our transactions but we saw someone who needed help and we stuck with him through the years. Patience and trust paid off for everyone.

Real Estate truly is a relationship business, and we wouldn't want it any other way.

If there is a senior in your life who is curious about making their next step to downsize or move into a retirement home/community. Feel free to reach out to us, we would be happy to help in any way we can!
